George Bush gave a speech today expressing the goal of “freeing people from ignorance.”
I do not believe that people naturally gravitate towards freedom. Anarchy…Yes…but not true freedom. I recall as a child thinking that life would be easier if someone just “told me exactly what to do.” I grew out of that mindset at around 16 and decided that hard work and responsibility had better rewards!
The perpetually ignorant and irresponsible accept a life of being told what to do. Why do so many choose to live this way? I suppose it’s like always being on a cruise…no requirements, just come when called…for food and games. Except that the food and games in real life are very poor when they are received in exchange for freedom!
Ron Paul recently gave his farewell speech to Congress. In it he lamented that, “those of us who believe in liberty have done so poorly in convincing others of its benefits…it should be an easy sell.”
Why does freedom need to be “sold” to people? “Masses have been quite receptive to the promises of Authoritarians…even though these (promises) have rarely, if ever, been fulfilled.” (Ron Paul)
True freedom starts in a heart and mind that seeks truth and is willing to live it out regardless of the cost!
“So Christ has really set us free. Now make sure that you stay free and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law” (Galatians 5:1/NLT)
The purpose of this blog is to encourage Christ-followers to see God’s Big Picture and be a part of it!
