Protect Your Own

The school massacre in Newtown just won’t leave my mind.  I quickly placed the components of the nightmare into their proper designations…gun control, mental health, eternal life…but the high cost of this one…the very young and the very brave, is too much to accept. Though they are now in the presence of Jesus, their families must continue here without them.  That is almost unbearable...turning “here” into a terribly painful place!

This shooting brings up many questions and demands an immediate response. The President is calling for a commission to look into violence in society…a year from now, the findings will not surprise, and there will be no real remedy to stop killers.

Our first and urgent responsibility is to protect our own.  We must guard the lives of the children in our care. Trained and trusted individuals should carry weapons and be willing to use them!

I am awaiting my concealed pistol permit from the State of Michigan.  This fall I went through the required training.  I don’t like guns! I don’t enjoy shooting guns!  And I especially don’t ever want to use a gun to shoot a person! However…just as I would stand between my child and a wild animal attack, I would shoot a human threat! That’s a lot of excalmations!  But I do believe that determined, forceful protection must be permitted and encouraged…for our children’s sake.

I learned in gun training not to step into the line of fire…this morning I dropped my daughter off “into the line of fire.” School zones are vulnerable to attackers!

Michigan’s Governor Snyder has legislation on his desk that would permit lisenced concealed weapons in schools. He is hesitating, due to the unreasoning pressure from those who fear guns.  We should all fear guns!…and be able and willing to carry one and use it!

“If you say, ‘The Lord is my refuge,’ and you make the Most High your dwelling,  no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.” (Psalm 91:9-10/NIV)

The purpose of this blog is to encourage Christ-followers to see God’s Big Picture and be a part of it!
