President Reagan nominated Robert H. Bork to the US Supreme Court in 1987. Liberals immediately railed against his faithfulness to the US Constitution (Originalism)… warning of “extremism” if he became one of the Lifetime-Nine.
The 2002 Oxford dictionary recognized “bork” as part of the English language…defining it as, “to defame or vilify.” Feminist Florynce Kennedy is credited with coining the verb, as she urged Liberals to unite in a repeat performance against Clarence Thomas. The attempted “borking” of Thomas did not prevent his appointment…but did drag him through a filthy mire. Ms Kennedy stated, “We’re going to ‘bork’ him. We’re going to kill him politically…this little creep…where did he come from?”
If you have been borked you understand the pain of unjust attacks, barrings, or terminations. God promises that times of suffering, at the hands of evil men and fools, are short when compared with eternity. Problems always open doors for better opportunities. Robert Bork did not become a Supreme Court Justice…he died this year, leaving a legacy of faithfulness in response to the inevitable borkings of life.
“For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people.” (I Peter 2:15/NIV)
