While coaching basketball last season, mine was among the least expected Teams in the League to finish at the top. We had just 8 players, one was young and uncoordinated, another didn’t understand the game, and the rest were of varying levels of skill…just two were reliable on the court. Add to this a League controlled by bullies, and you have a recipe for failure.
An interesting phenomenon can occur when facing an overwhelming opposition…sometimes the “weak” are energized…surprising even themselves!
My Team learned how to focus on the basics. Passing and shooting were practiced until they were second nature to every player. We played with strategic control…every minute of play was maximized to accomplish the goal of winning games. We held the longest winning streak in the League…losing just once…to the League Bullies…but only after beating them first!
The season ended in a tie for First Place…Underdogs and Bullies!
Don’t be overwhelmed with a Bully’s apparent power…keep working hard and smart…and you may be energized to overcome the opposition!
“These things have I spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33/NAS)
