Valuing Social Issues

Social Issues-3By: Susan Bea Good

Do today’s conservatives value the “social issues?”…or are they strategically silenced for political purposes?

Rand Paul, many in Tea Party, and of course the leadership of the Republican Party, have suggested that social issues be quieted to “encourage more people to join our side.”

Less than a week after the 2012 presidential election, Senator John McCain urged Conservatives to “leave abortion discussions alone”…warning that, focusing on those issues puts the Republican Party at risk of “alienating young and female voters.”

Below is a clip offered by an outspoken blogger on a National Tea Party site:

“While I have a strong faith in God, and I’m unafraid to speak of it, I believe that someone intent upon thumping their bibles… and displaying constant anti-abortion graphics, are in my opinion, probably not helping us achieve our goals, objectives, or mission plans. In fact, it  is very likely, these individuals are probably turning ‘off’ and turning away far more would be ‘warriors,’ and ‘contributors’ then one might think.”

Here’s another example from the founder of a Regional Tea Party site:

“We are not a ‘Christian group’ and I don’t want those who do not agree with Christianity to feel it is being thrust in their faces. I am a Christian but we have to have people of all types here.”

Do Christians today really value “social issues?” Are we willing to stand strong against abortion and homosexual marriage? Who will remain committed to the same biblical principles that provided the foundation for our American Constitution?

Why must conservative Christians silence their consciences to “attract a more diverse crowd?”

One last word, from a new friend…regarding the “Conservative” who won’t stand strong on social issues:

“If they want me to take them seriously, then they need to realize how much of an issue disregarding the sanctity of life really is. I couldn’t care less if our economy collapses. It’ll be what we deserve for compromising on morality and faith. As of right now, I really have no faith in politics…”

If this nation is ever to return to God’s values, each of us must speak up and act..with no regard for how man will respond!

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God…that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm…praying at all times in the Spirit…to that end keep alert with all perseverance…” (Ephesians 6:10-19/ESV)

The purpose of this blog is to encourage Christ-followers to see God’s Big Picture and be a part of it!
