Bloody Waste of Time?

By: Susan Bea Good

Rob Bell recently grabbed local headlines again here in West Michigan, promoting his new book. He took the opportunity to clarify the cause of his quick departure from the area last year, saying it was due to a “profound calling of God to do a new thing”… denying reports that he was driven away, over his controversial teaching that Jesus’ cross-work may have been a waste of His bloody time!

Of course the former pastor doesn’t use such offensive terminology…he presents a “new-but-old” apostasy in a more “acceptable” form. Bell sums up his new thinking, and clues in his former denomination, that the core message of “Evangelicalism doesn’t work!”

What is the core of the Evangelical message?… “Jesus was born, He died, was buried, and rose again the third day”…this is the heart of God’s Good News!

Bell, once a leader of the lost sheep…becomes one of them, joining many other apostates throughout the ages, in a chorus of doubt and lame “praise” of a bloodless Jesus…little “s” savior of those who feel the need for such nonsense!

Well, call me nonsensical…I have realized that my sins are great…I  need Jesus as Savior!

Resurrection season is an appropriate time to reacknowledge Jesus’ cross-work, as necessary for any who would be forgiven and accepted by God.  Jesus is not an Option…He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life…for any who would call on His name.

For those who mock the name, and lead the foolish to reject the necessity of His cross…woe to you…for there is coming a Day of Judgment, when you will not be able to hide behind worldly popularity.  Bell and others may sadly and abruptly become personally enlightened of the existence and duration of “Hell”…the biblical punishment for all who reject Christ as Lord!

“For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures…” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4/ESV)

The purpose of this blog is to encourage Christ-followers to see God’s Big Picture and be a part of it!
