Boycotting Bigots

By: Susan Bea Good

JC Penny and Starbucks…I’ve loved these two commercial-bigots.  I don’t love their intolerance of Christian values…but their low priced casual clothing and Carmel Macchiatos have been favorites of mine for years.

The American Family Association successfully called out JC Penny, after the company started an add campaign featuring the lesbian comedian, Ellen DeGeneres. AFA sponsored, One Million Moms, warned of their own commitment to stop doing business with a company that promotes homosexuality. JC Penny suggested we shop somewhere else… and their stock values fell by half.

Last year the specialty coffee giant released a statement…”Starbucks supports same-sex marriage.” Since then, investor’s dividends have fallen. How far is that company willing to go in their support of the Gay agenda?…their CEO stated…”some things are more important than profits.” Last week the CEO made another declaration, to those who disagree with the company’s stand on same-sex marraige, “Sell your shares of stock and invest in another company.”

I was once an Ellen fan…and a Rosie fan…and going way back, an Elton fan.  Maybe I was a bit naive, but I was taken by surprise when these celebrities declared their gayness.

Comedians that no longer make me laugh and “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”…these make no sense…like companies that insist they don’t want my business.

It’s always been “expensive” to hold a social value. JC Penny quietly dropped the Ellen adds in April. I’ll be watching to see if my morning caffiene boycott changes any Starbuck convictions.

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.” (Ephesians 6:10 ESV)

The purpose of this blog is to encourage Christ-followers to see God’s Big Picture and be a part of it!
