Priorities

By: Susan Bea Good

I interviewed a friend yesterday. He’s a Christian, and a black pastor of a church in my area.

I have been increasingly troubled by the support I see, from the black Christian community, for the current leadership in this country. My concerns are specific. How can Christians support a government that is anti-Christian? Furthermore, how can black Christians support leaders that promote the killing of their own unborn babies, and the perverting of their children’s souls with homosexual training in their Public Schools?

I was told that black Christians have two priorities that determine who they support as their leaders.

Priority #1 is “Blackness.” The black populace of America carries a burden from historical slavery, which they have not yet set aside. Bitterness is a sin, nurtured and encouraged by crafty politicians and preachers. This heart-sickness has grown worse in America over the past five decades. The result is seen in the vengeful position where many in today’s black community choose to live. It is a self-destructive place, but it seems that they will not depart from it…even as it costs them their lives! That’s the way sin rewards its followers. Further pain and loss always comes to those who insist on hating and hurting.

Priority #2 is a “Top Ten.” When seeking a leader, the black Christian checks a “list” from most to least important. Currently listed in positions numbers 1-5 are, racial justice, individual financial support, job training, community investment, and Obamacare. My friend calls these “the things that affect my life!” I call these, the agenda of “What’s in it for me?”

Where is the black community’s concern for the destructive abortion and homosexual agenda? Black Christians say that they “believe abortion is wrong, and homosexuality is bad,” but neither takes priority over the “What’s in it for me?”

At the end of the interview I asked a rhetorical question…”Is it possible that God has removed His wisdom from the black Christian Community because of its choice to prioritize ‘What’s in it for me’ over the lives of babies, and the moral stand against homosexual behavior?”

Sadly, I see no movement at all towards correcting the priorities…and that can only mean that black Christians will continue to suffer at the hands of the very leaders they have chosen… the same who perpetrate a mental slavery upon their community…by convincing them that their masters are their friends!

My friend ended our interview with a startling statement…”My people trust Obama!”

“For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of His saints.” (Proverbs 2:6-8/ESV)

The purpose of this blog is to encourage Christ-followers to see God’s Big Picture and be a part of it!
