Marlise Munoz was declared “dead” in November, after a blood clot blocked oxygen to her brain. To complicate this tragedy, her fourteen week unborn-baby remained alive another nine weeks before a Texas Judge ordered the removal of life-support.
Marlise’s family requested the end of her physical ordeal, believing that she was already gone. But what about the unborn infant? Was it wrong, violating God’s sixth commandment, to cause the passing of this baby? Was this child’s death the murderous equivalent to an abortion? I don’t believe so. This was a tragedy, which resulted in two deaths. One was unexpected, and the other was unavoidable.
If mom loved the Lord, she went to be with Him months ago. Baby followed this weekend. I do hope that both are now at peace.
“For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens…For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened…that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.” (1 Corinthians 5:1-4/ESV)
