Today was definitely a very bad day! After fielding questions from four attorneys, and hearing hours of expert testimony, I witnessed my first-born son being handcuffed, shackled, and led away by two Sheriff’s Deputies.
As bad as this one was, I’ve had worse days. Some that are still indescribably painful to recount, staying close to the surface, I expect, for the rest of my life.
Years ago I spent one long summer of bad days reading the biblical book of Job. I must say, that’s one depressing book! However, when one is experiencing Job-like suffering it is a comfort to know how God brought him out of it.
I was surprised that God had some genuine good to make out of the bad times. Real good, as judgment is turned to mercy. Real good, as the pain of others is truly understood. Real good, as my own heart is strengthened, even while still in the mess of my own bad time.
God does eventually bring us out of the bad days…stronger in spirit, softer in heart, and clearer in mind. Though not easy to go through, sometimes the deepest blessings come on a real good bad day!
“And He lifted up His eyes on His disciples, and said,”…Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.” (Luke 6:20-21/ESV)
