This weekend my family attended the Great Homeschool Convention in Cincinnati. One of the most impactful sessions at the Convention was offered by Gianna Jessen.
Gianna has the ability to encourage others through her shocking birth-story. As an abortion survivor she has a testimony of God’s faithfulness that cannot be matched, as well as a life-long determination to live, not despite her challenges, but rather because of these.
Gianna is a kind and beautiful young woman, who patiently shares that her cerebral palsy is just one of the many “gifts” she has so far received from God. Some gifts take time to be fully appreciated, as along the way they grow more beautiful than we ever could have imagined.
Gianna expresses a particular impatience for the occasional “weasels” of life. I recently came across rare film footage of a prairie dog attacking and burying an intrusive weasel…adding an interesting dimension to a metaphor for the two types of challenges we face in life…Quickly bury life’s weasels, but slowly open and share every gift!
“…we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts…” (Romans 5:3-5/ESV)
The purpose of this blog is to encourage Christ-followers to see God’s Big Picture and be a part of it.
