Three months ago I registered my family to attend the Great Homeschool Convention in Cincinnati, paying extra for tickets to hear Dr. Ben Carson speak at the close of the final day. I had no idea if he would be accessible to the crowds, but hoped I could “interview” him for this blog.
Indeed the Dr. had set aside time for a book-signing two hours before his speech. It was not advertised, and because I was busy in another session I arrived last. One security member permitted me to enter at the end of the line, raising my hopes that I would get a moment with the man who may become the next President of the United States.
Within moments though my hopes were dashed as another officer ordered me to leave! He was not in the mood to hear from me, and insisted in a very strong voice, “The line ends here!”…indicating that I was not included in it!
Though I don’t give up easily, it was obvious that he meant business, and though I was within ten feet of the great doctor, I was NOT going to be talking with him then.
My new plan was to slip out of the scheduled speech fifteen minutes early to be first in line, if he was to again accept personal interaction. Security had a table prepared, and I began waiting. The speech went long, and ended with a rush of audience out the doors and down a level to another area where Dr. Carson arrived to take questions. I had missed my chance again!
I received a call from a friend that he was holding a place for me in the Carson line…and took off to complete my mission.
That mission was simple, after a few well publicized interviews in which Dr. Carson left some questioning his commitment to the Constitution’s Second Amendment, I wanted only to ask where he stood.
“Hi, I’m a homeschool mom, who writes a blog encouraging Christ-followers to see God’s Big Picture, and be a part of it. I also submit to the Cowger Nation, geared towards Christian Conservative teens. I have just one question for you, ‘Do you support the Second Amendment 100%?'”
The great Dr. Ben Carson said, “Yes!”
Enough said…and for me that “line” ends here!
“Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil.” (Mathew 5:37/ESV)
The purpose for this blog is to encourage Christ-followers to see God’s Big Picture and be a part of it.
