When I was a child I often heard my parents say, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.”
As I grew, I realized that just saying nothing negative is not the aim, it’s being able to find something positive to say in any situation.
I awoke this morning from a dream that I met the President. For some reason (you know how dreams can go) I had the opportunity to speak to him face-to-face.
What would you say to Barack Obama, seriously, if you were given the opportunity to speak to him? Every day I hear or read what many, who often remain “anonymous” say…and it’s not “nice.” Some even assign labels to the President that are very unflattering, morphing his personal name into derogatory forms, and just outright calling him a POS! I had never even heard of this last reference until some of you applied it to our President.
It’s not nice, you know that, to call anyone names. In the case of our nation’s highest leader, it’s downright immoral. Do we realize that God puts “kings” (I know the POTUS is not supposed to be a king) in and takes them out? That position deserves respect!
So, If I were to have a moment with our current president I would share this way: “Mr. President may I pray with you?…Dear Lord God, I thank you for Your eternal goodness, Your infinite power, and Your personal love. I know that You created the universe and each of us. You have demonstrated Your interest in us when You came personally to pay the price for our sin. Thank you Jesus for sacrificing Your heavenly position to die a crucifixion’s death for our souls. Father, I pray today for Barack, that You would speak to his heart. I pray that You might call him to come and be Your child. I know that You will forgive all those that You have called, through the salvation provided through Jesus the Son. I pray today that Your Spirit would change the heart of Barack Obama…showing him his need of Jesus, filling him with Your Spirit’s fruit. May the love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control of Your Spirit fill his heart and change his mind. And may Barack become a godly man and a true servant of Jesus. Amen”
