Yesterday I drove into my small town for a haircut. While looking for a parking spot I noticed a man “acting strangely” nearby. He was young, black, smoking, “going nowhere,” and glaring at me as I passed his location. After parking I continued to keep him in sight, and noticed he did the same with me. Strange, I thought!
I was carrying a concealed weapon and felt no personal danger, but without a doubt this particular man, on that particular corner, behaving in that particular manner, caused me some hesitation.
I wondered if I’d become unreasonably concerned about the possibility of radical Muslims entering my peaceful corner of the world? Or, was I just properly prepared, with a healthy dose of paranoia?
An hour later the street corner was clear, and I returned safely to my vehicle. Nearby there was a photographer taking photos of a nice looking young family. All seemed unaware of the possibility that a threatening man might be lurking in our lovely town.
Today I was scheduled to meet friends at the restaurant across from yesterday’s “man on the corner.” I decided to delay the posting of this blog until I could check out one possible explanation. Perhaps the suspicious guy was just a hard worker taking a cigarette-break? I arrived early for lunch and discretely asked if they had an employee matching his description. They did not!
In the news this week, The Gun Cave, a popular Arkansas shooting range, has decided to ban Muslims. Its owner explained, “I understand that not all Muslims are terrorists…Since I have no way of discerning which Muslims will or will not kill in the name of their religion and the commands in their Koran…I choose to err on the side of caution…” Of course the ACLU is hot on this case of “discrimination,” and the range will soon be forced to close their business.
How can we know who is a Muslim? And even then, how can we tell who is a “radical” follower of Allah? In Oklahoma last week, a black Muslim man beheaded a white Christian woman, while shouting “Arabic phrases.” To complicate this insidious threat, this particular murderous Muslim was born here in America, and raised as a Baptist!
Soon we all may be faced with a similar decision as the Gun Cave owner’s…stand strongly prepared, with a good dose of paranoia (ignoring PC charges of discrimination or bigotry) or be caught unexpectedly by the neck!
