In Nebraska, a no-nonsense candidate named Ben Sasse is running for the Senate seat currently held by the “full-of-it” (nonsense, that is) incumbent Democrat Mike Johanns.
I am crediting Mr. Sasse with coining the term “Dispositionally Conservative,” to describe those who have learned their essential values from hard work. On his “Sasse for Senate” site, Ben shares that he “regards the six summers he spent walking beans and de-tasseling corn, as core lessons in the value of hard work.”
I don’t even know what “walking beans” is, but I do understand hard work. Those who are willing to do it, value its benefits. And those who are not willing, are unable to understand the strength of mind, body, and character that hard work produces.
I believe that the majority of Americans are Dispositional Conservatives. Unlike those who prioritize their values dependent on the political winds of the times, we are to our very cores, conservative!
Perhaps the Dispositionally Conservative should start a Third Party…or better yet, reclaim the original Conservative Party.
Sasse gave a great interview with Sean Hannity yesterday. This man’s hope-filled enthusiasm for America, as well as his recognition of those who are deeply committed, heart-level Conservatives, is possibly the encouragement needed to incite and strengthen those to participate in the political process…necessary if we are once again to become a God-blessed nation.
(Jesus) “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” (Luke 10:27/ESV)
