Seasonal Hardship

michigan-fireworks By: Susan Bea Good

Travel has been treacherous in Michigan this winter. It’s still early in the season but we have already experienced numerous multiple vehicle pileups on main travel routes. Last week a freak accident resulted when a family van, caught in a white-out, rear-ended a semi, and was dragged along for twenty miles before State Police were able to flag down the truck driver. And finally, another pile up, this time 190 cars and semis, resulted in explosions and death, as a 40,000 lb. load of fireworks ignited, closing the highway for days.

Michiganders prepare themselves, mentally and physically, for these occasional harsh storms and everyday challenges. As each winter season arrives we clear our patios, stock our car trunks, get out the shovels and scrappers, and check propane levels. We know what’s coming, and we do what we can to get through in one piece.

Nationally we are entering a challenging season. Though the 2016 election is a year and a half away, there is a lot of work to be done now. Conservatives must speak up early and loudly! Already swirling around are the names of numerous possible Republican Presidential candidates. Their views and records are clear and available for inspection. What isn’t clear is the resolve of the nation to elect a true Conservative to lead us through the storms ahead.

Present worldwide conditions are bleak, as economies are failing, morality is dying, and Islamists are murdering. It’s a challenge to live in most of Africa, Europe, and Asia. Even our closest continental neighbors in South America suffer daily due to unjust governance. Conservatism and Christianity are targeted all over this world, and we in North America are the last to feel it.

But it’s coming soon to a town near you! The targeting of good is the goal of the director of evil. Satan himself is the commander in chief of the unearthly force that inspires the failure of mankind. We can debate world conditions and experiment on remedies, but it is becoming obvious, even to North Americans, that evil is enveloping the globe, and we too must prepare for an impending personal confrontation.

“This too shall pass,” is one of my husband’s favorite admonitions. He’s been correct in most cases, but not every challenge is going to “pass.” Some are here to stay…and must be dealt with if we expect to survive. Even “survival” must be defined. As people who love goodness and freedom, what are we prepared to “weather?”

The times are challenging. Those who have a faith that cannot be destroyed will survive, maybe here, but surely in eternity. Those who are ignorant or lacking of faith will not, in either state.

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
Nor shall the flame scorch you.
 For I am the LORD your God,
The Holy One of Israel, your Savior…” (Isaiah 43:2-3/ESV)

The purpose of this blog is to encourage Christ-followers to see God’s Big Picture and be a part of it.
