“Christians blew it,” says Mike Farris from the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA).
The non-believing public has always been accepting of evils like abortion, blasphemy, secularism, pornography, and homosexuality. But it’s the apathy, compromise, delay and unbiblical teaching of God’s people that has led our nation to the point of degradation we find ourselves in today. In twenty first century America a woman may murder her unborn child, a man can marry another man, bigotry is promoted, coveteousness is applauded, disregard for authority is expected, abuse of power is rampant, and blaspheming God’s name is in style.
Forty years ago the apathy of my parent’s generation led to the legalization of abortion and the banning of prayer in public schools.
More recent compromise and delay from Christians has led to devastating SCOTUS decisions on gay marriage and religious freedom, as well as the failure of Congress to immediately de-fund Planned Parenthood.
Believers have failed to work out their faith in public, so that these evils would be held back. God promised that if His people would humble themselves and pray, He would hear them and heal their land. So when is the nationwide time of prayer to access God’s promises?
Mike Farris’ July 24 Facebook entry: “Whenever I am tempted to think that it is too daunting to continue the task at hand (standing up for what it right to try to turn this nation back to freedom and truth) I take solace in the lessons found in Isaiah 1:10-20… God tells them the following: 1. He will not bless their religious activities (including prayer) while their hands are full of blood and they continue to do what is wrong. 2. If HIS PEOPLE will wash and make themselves clean and take their evil deeds out of His sight, then he can heal the land. (This means it is not about trying to get those alienated from God to do right, a nation can be turned around when those who claim to know God do what is right) 3. The turn around from God can come swiftly and completely. Though our sins be like scarlet they shall be as white as snow. (This passage makes me essentially unconcerned about the actions of those who reject God–as it pertains to trying to right the moral compass. I steadfastly believe that if God’s followers will wake up and do what is right, our nation shall not be stained in the crimson of blood but shall be as white as snow. Now that’s a turn around)”
Only those who have a faith in the Creator are authorized to approach Him. We are the ones able to ask for mercy on our nation. And we are the ones failing!
“If My people who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14/ESV)
