Fetal Tissue Research: We’ve Come a Long Way Baby!

Fetal Tissue Research

By: Susan Bea Good

I have Parkinson’s. It’s a neurodegenerative disease caused by a loss of dopamine in the substantia nigra portion of the brain. There is no cure at this time, though cell transplant therapy is showing symptom-reducing results.

Some of the earliest cell transplant research resulted from experimentation on doomed Jews during the reign of the Nazis in Germany. Post WWII ethicists agonized over whether to access the clinical data from these inhumane sources.

A Jewish Virtual Library report states that: Some “have suggested that the use of the data would serve as a lesson to the world, that the victims did not die futilely, and that a post mortem use of the data would retroactively give ‘purpose’ to their otherwise meaningless deaths…(however) Doctor Howard Spiro, of the Department of Internal Medicine a Yale University, insists that no one honors the memory of the dead victims by learning from experiments carried out on them. Instead, we make the Nazis our retroactive partners in the victims’ torture and death.”

Today the concept of ethical dilemma seems muted, as private institutions regularly use aborted-fetal cells for research and treatment of diseases.

We’ve come a long way baby! As documented in undercover videos, abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood, profit from the killing of unborn humans. Their clients, women paying to have their pregnancies terminated and private companies paying for the salvaged cells, line up to participate in the carnage.

Parkinson’s research relies heavily on cell transplants. Sadly the aborted-fetal aspect of these developments is undeniable. The first fetal neural tissue transplants done in the US occurred in 1988. Since that time a market for fetal parts has skyrocketed. One report assures that, “At present, there is adequate available tissue from elective abortions to meet the need of Parkinson’s disease patients.”

The National Institute of Health released a 2002 report which included this gruesome description of a Parkinson patient’s brain surgery:  “in an adjacent OR, a fetus was collected…within a minute…the fetal brain tissue was dissected…and grafted” into the brain of the patient. (emphasis added)

When medical science offers “cures” at the expense of morality it can be a challenge for individuals to keep their personal consciences intact.

Like many WWII ethicists I personally refuse to participate in, and plan to reject, medical treatments resulting from the murder of innocent humans.

(God) “When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you; even when you offer many prayers, I am not listening. Your hands are full of blood! Wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight; stop doing wrong.” (Isaiah 1:15-16/NIV)

The purpose of this blog is to encourage Christ-followers to see God’s Big Picture and be a part of it. Adonai Eloheinu!
