What I learned From Saturday’s Football Game

Michigan State Remains Undefeated

By: Susan Bea Good

I watched college football Saturday. My team was behind the entire game…yet they won!

Hmmmm, I wonder how I can frame this to encourage Christ-followers to never quit!…never lose hope!…and keep throwing hard passes!

With University of Michigan scoring first, and staying ahead throughout all four quarters, it seemed obvious that they were the game winners. So much so that a local sports report listed them as just that! However, in the last ten seconds of the game State ran a play that ended with a linebacker catching the pass and running forty yards for the winning touchdown. The clock ran out before he crossed into the end zone, but the goal was good. Shocked U of M fans tore at their hair, screamed “Nooooo”…some even wept!

This game reinforced for me that there is always hope. So, in an entirely different application I’ll continue to apply hope that God will bless our nation with a “win” in the upcoming elections.

Our country is desperate for a revival. We have rebelled so badly that the practices of abortion and homosexuality are regular topics of debate, even within the church. Changing these mindsets won’t come easily…but like loyal Michigan State fans I will not lose hope, even when it seems that time has run out. I will remember that God’s timing is sovereign, and there are rewards promised to those who stay in the game, until the very end!

(Jesus) “Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved. This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:12-14/ESV)

The purpose of this blog is to encourage Christ-followers to see God’s Big Picture and be a part of it. Adonai Eloheinu!
