In just three months Glen Beck’s Nazarene Fund has raised 12 million dollars to rescue Christians living under persecution in Muslim countries. These “vetted” Christian Middle Easterners are being relocated in European communities, as the US will not accept most of them.
Last week Barak Obama declared that the US does not apply a “religious test” to asylum seekers…insinuating that only bigots would offer gracious entry into the US to those who are in danger of losing their lives because of their Christian religious beliefs. The truth is something else. Religion has long been a strong factor in favor of American asylum.
The official US Refugee Asylum standards declare: “Every year people come to the United States seeking protection because they have suffered persecution…due to Race, Religion, Nationality…”
Notice that “religion” is among the top three reasons the US government recognizes for Asylum claims.
A current argument amongst Christian-Americans is over whether or not we should undertake a “rescue mission” for refugees fleeing Islamic terror in the Middle East. Some insist that all asylum-seekers must be accepted into the US. After all, “Mary and Joseph were refugees when they fled to Egypt to escape Herod’s persecution.” Therefore, how could a Christian reject a refugee?
As a Christian I believe my first responsibility is to help my brothers and sisters in Christ anywhere in the world. Helping Muslims is not my first priority. I make no apologies for revealing that God’s Word tells me to answer the distress calls of the brethren first. Those Christ-followers in Syria, Iraq, and other anti-Christ dominated lands, are my first priority.
Of course there is also good will in my heart for Muslims who suffer under Islamic ideology, and as a result of “extremists” within their own communities. However, even Jesus’ Good Samaritan example helped “from a distance.” After he rescued the victim from imminent death, he made arrangements for transportation and further medical care. The Samaritan rescuer did not bring the victim into his own home!
Americans, represented by our government, should help those who are suffering under life-threatening conditions, as we always have done. But there are many options to save those in danger that do not include bringing the enemies of God into our land!
President Obama is currently bullying, threatening, and shaming Americans into a broad Muslim rescue mission that may destroy our families, homes, and way of life.
I don’t believe that God asks us to surrender ourselves to deadly invaders!
“A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead…But a Samaritan…had compassion. He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.'” (Luke 10:30-35/ESV)
