“A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.” (Proverbs 22:1/ESV)
“You can tell a man’s character by the way he …”
How do you finish that statement? For the past six months I’ve been able to tell a man’s character by the way he relates to Donald J. Trump.
Too simplistic a formula?…I think it’s a perfect test of the character strength of an individual. As Donald’s supporter-list grows, the names on it sometimes surprise me. What is no surprise is that many choose to identify with a rich man who may be the winner in our presidential election.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Rev. Robert Jeffress, Sen. Jeff Sessions, Jerry Falwell Jr., Phyliss Schafley, Willie Robertson, Rudi Giuliani, Gov. Chris Christie, Sarah Palin, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and the accused pedophile Dr. Ben Carson have all declared their admiration for the philandering con-artist. These people have disappointed many.
However, the list of those who are refusing to promote the powerful personality is also growing: Sen. Mike Lee, Gen. Jerry Boykin, Neil Bush, Frank Gaffney, Rep. Louis Gomert, Gov. Rick Perry, CAAP’s Rev. Bill Owens, Carly Fiorina, Phil Robertson, Dr. James Dobson, Max Lucado, Glenn Beck, Mark Levin. This list is growing daily.
For many like myself character is important. Like his scam University Donald Trump’s personal character grade earns a -D. The characters of those who follow this man must also be graded low. You may also know the saying, “Birds of a feather…”
It’s easy to follow and hard to lead. It’s hard to push against popular sentiment and easy to go along with the crowd. Those who take the easy way are not to be admired or emulated. The men and women who fight for what’s right regardless of the personal cost, are the ones to watch, follow, and join.
This blogger’s intent is to encourage Christ-followers to see God’s Big Picture and be a part of it. Adonai Eloheinu!
