“When going downhill, and a large truck, with white smoke coming out from underneath, is fast approaching from behind, you should_______________.” (bad grammar and punctuation in original)
The written exam for Part 1 of our State Driver’s Training course included a 12-page study guide riddled with bad grammar, misspelled words, and inaccurate “correct” multiple choice answers. It’s a wonder anyone passes the exam.
“Michigan law requires you to have your headleights (sic) on 30 minutes after sunset until 30 minutes before sunset.” (Translation: Headlights must be used one hour each day…a half an hour before it gets dark until a half an hour after it gets dark)
I came into contact with these and other ambiguous, nonsensical, or clearly false statements while quizzing my daughter this week for her driver’s ed. exam (which she passed). There was a lot of laughter as we worked together through the questions and answers. For me the brain-twisting task was comparable to arguing with a Donald Trump follower. They don’t make any sense…and yet ironically they’ve convinced themselves that they are right- “TRUMP 2016!”
Just yesterday I witnessed Jeffry Lord, a former advisor to Ronald Reagan, claim that Trump’s statements after the Brussel’s bombings, that he would use a nuclear weapon to stop ISIS , was just a joke…like all/or none of the other extreme statements DT has made. Oh really? I’ll have to admit that I don’t get his jokes…and worse, I don’t even know when DT is joking!
It’s encouraging to see good men rise to stand in these times. It’s also a disappointment to discover who are not “good men.” One thing I know for sure, when this election cycle is over we will know much more about one another.
“Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice…’How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge? If you turn at my reproof, behold, I will pour out my spirit to you; I will make my words known to you. Because I have called and you refused to listen, have stretched out my hand and no one has heeded, because you have ignored all my counsel and would have none of my reproof, I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when terror strikes you…Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently but will not find me. Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord… therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way, and have their fill of their own devices. For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them; but whoever listens to me will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster.’” (Proverbs 1:20-33/ESV)
This blogger’s hope is to be an encouragement to Christ-followers as they see God’s Big Picture and actively participate in it. Adonai Eloheinu!
