“Declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all My purpose…'” (Isaiah 46:10/ESV)
Tonight Ted Cruz withdrew from the race to become the Republican nominee for President. It was a shock to see that message scroll at the bottom of my TV screen. I made a quick check of two other networks to see if they had the same news, just as Senator Cruz made his announcement. Of course, that’s why the whole family was in the background, Carly was so somber, and all looked weepy. I too was weepy…as this was a great disappointment!
However, God still has His plan for America, and that has not changed at all! As a finite human I had big hopes of voting for a godly leader in November, but tonight I have set that hope aside. There certainly are many scenarios yet possible, as I was sharing with a Facebook friend- there’s the Trump University lawsuit scheduled to open the week of the Republican Convention in June. There’s the very sad looking Melania Trump, who appears to me to be just about to the end of her diamond ropes after ten years of wedded bliss with the Donald. But most likely to yet have an effect on this campaign is the Democrat’s “Truth about Trump” onslaught, to begin tomorrow.
Trump’s life, private and public, is so packed full of dishonesty, unfaithfulness, and foolishness that perhaps at the end of this contest the Republican delegates will be inclined to vote for Ted Cruz at the convention after all.
I may be picking up a little sliver of hope again. There is no denying though that this presidential primary season has been effective in revealing the hearts of too many Americans- dishonest, unfaithful, and foolish. Just like the heart of their chosen candidate.
God is sovereign. He will accomplish His plan for America, which may be to make life harder, causing hearts to open to His gospel.
This blogger’s hope is to be an encouragement to Christ-followers to see God’s Big Picture and purpose to participate in it. Adonai Eloheinu!
