“David said to Nathan, ‘I have sinned against the Lord.’ And Nathan said to David, ‘The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die.'” (2 Samuel 12:13/ESV)
I am troubled almost daily by those who demand that I abandon my principles and commit to voting for Donald Trump in November. I recognize the lack of wisdom (or worse) that each of these voters proved with their primary selections, yet I am willing to give them a second chance. The Republican convention begins next week in Cleveland. It is possible for this Party to nominate a true Conservative…but this would require repentance from Trumpism.
Trump voters have welcomed a new religion into America. Shockingly, it’s the “evangelicals” who have filled the pews in worship of a new savior, the one they believe has the answers to all their problems. The foolishness of this stance takes my breath away!
Why must I promise to cast my vote for a man who has never been a Conservative?…so that “Hitlery” doesn’t win…to “Make America Great Again”…to build a wall…to stop all those evil Mexicans, Muslims, and Jews from taking over America?
True Conservatives have been working hard for months preparing a Republican Party statement of faith that can withstand the assaults coming next week. The convention begins Monday, with a presumed nominee who cannot commit to the Party statement. Will the Republicans pass him through? Or will they take their second chance and free the delegates to vote their consciences?
