“…for we walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthian 5:7/ESV)
With just 63 days left before voting is finalized for this season’s national elections Socialist Liberal Democrats seem settled on their candidate, but Conservative Christian Republican types are wrestling more than ever…with each other. The Republican candidate is so divisive that we cannot unite behind him!
For months my Facebook feed has reflected my view of Trump as a candidate to reject. I have made it clear, by the links I share and with my own personal statements, that I cannot vote for Donald Trump. I cannot! Is that clear? I just can’t do it! No, I don’t want Hillary to become President…but the fact remains that primary voters put forward a man that I am unable to support, regardless of the consequence. This argument is a moral one.
A moral argument is one made on principles of conscience. My conscience does not allow me to go to places that some of my FB friends seem OK with. When I share my stand it is to encourage others who are standing with me, to assist some who are wavering, and to dissuade a few from the course they are on. I am not personally condemning you because we disagree. Perhaps you have confused me with your own conscience…which may be condemning you.
“Do no evil” is the principle on which I stand in response to life. This extends to supporting those who do evil- I cannot stand with them!
To take an evil course in order to avoid another evil course is not an option for me. In these situations, and there have been many in my life experience, I defer to Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding, acknowledge Him in all your ways and He will direct your paths.”
I do not claim to fully understand the situation we are in as a nation. One year ago I was confident that God wanted us to move on from the precipice we faced morally, financially, and globally. However, at this time I cannot say that I see what God is doing with America. I do see that our country is deserving of painful correction for our almost 60 million abortions, perverse focus on sexual dysfunction, and abandonment of faith in Him.
One thing I do hope is that faithful Believers in Jesus Christ will honestly examine their motives for supporting an ungodly man for leader of this nation. We’ve all heard that there are only two choices this election. In fact that may be correct. This election may be revealing God’s process of binary separation. The choices we make may separate us by sheep and goats- those who would not bow to an idol to save their own lives and those who would, those who would follow Him into the Promised Land and those who would cower in fear of the future.
God may be allowing His children to choose destruction or blessing at our own hands. This presidential election may be an opportunity for repentance before He releases His full judgment. We will each answer for our choices in this life. I can explain mine, can you explain yours?
“This blogger’s hope is to be an encouragement to faithful Christ-followers as they recognize God’s Big Picture and purpose to participate in it. Adonai Eloheinu!”
