Smiling Bigly this Morning

By: Susan Bea Good

“…for the evil man has no future; the lamp of the wicked will be put out.” (Proverbs 24:20/ESV)

When my first daughter was a young girl she once asked for “toast, not cooked.” After questioning her I discovered she really wanted bread, not toast. The memory still makes me smile and also reminds me of the definition of “toast.”

Yesterday I realized Trump is toast!  He’s cooked himself with an accumulation of burning remarks made throughout the past year. His racist “Mexican” rant last week led to the slow down of the Trump train to a point where any who still have sense are jumping off.

This fact has put a huge smile on my face today- you could say I’m smiling “bigly.” This expression erupted in full force as I witnessed Trump’s carefully written teleprompter speech last night, flanked my his frantic-eyed females all but mouthing the words to come next. Trump left the prompter a few times, and in one of those reality star moments he again used his own special childish adverb.

Donald Trump’s presumptive position as the nominee we all “must vote for in order to stop Hillary” is over! Hallelujah, Praise to Yahweh!…but don’t stop praying just yet. The Republican Party establishment has not yet disembarked their own train to destruction. They will need yet to disavow the con-man and clarify themselves and their upcoming convention. A conscience-vote is what’s needed in July.

I will not stop praying that my country and my Party stand firmly against evil. Conservatives are not responsible for the evil in Hillary Clinton. We can fight a President Hillary. But God help us if we put a President Trump into leadership. We would not be able to fight him, and worse- he would be our evil!

You Asked for This

By: Susan Bea Good

The prophet Isaiah’s words to a rebellious Israel, “…but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you
so that He does not hear.” (Isaiah 59:2/ESV)

Today Donald Trump attacked the media in a press conference regarding his fund raising stunt held the same night as the the last debate before the Republican primary vote in Iowa. This five-time draft deferred abuser of American patriots attempted, for five months, to remain unaccountable for his claim that he raised 6 million dollars for veterans. Outrageous you say? But you asked for this!

Loyal followers of Trump are unswayed by evidence of his unsuitability to serve as President of the United States. Instead of abandoning him they clamor to microphones and Facebook in defense of his poor judgment, character, and behavior. There is apparently nothing Donald Trump could do to change their minds. Outrageous you say? But you asked for this!

If you’re a Conservative who still believes in the constitution and still possesses personal character prohibiting you from supporting a liar for President, then you are not included in the “you.”

“You” are the media who have controlled and contrived information, allowing the public to “know” only what benefited your causes. You know who you are…Liberals who refused to stand up to Democrats for the past fifty years!

Republican leadership asked for this as well…you practically begged America to lose its mind after years of abuse. It’s too late now to be shocked that a candidate like Trump is close to becoming your nominee for President.

You asked for this…true Conservatives did not!

Not All Aboard the Trump Train?

By: Susan Bea Good

“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.” (Proverbs 12:15/ESV)

Last month my daughter attended the annual Awana Summit in Washington DC. She and her friends are already making plans for next year’s competition to be held in Colorado Springs. One option for Team travel is to take a two-day train trip. I’ve never traveled by train in the US (I have in India, but that’s another story) but the idea seems more relaxing than a twenty hour car drive.

Speaking of trains, Trump’s seems to be filling with passengers at an alarming rate. Its flashy conductor and crew are sounding the final boarding call long before the scheduled departure. Powerless pedestrians seem terrified they won’t get a seat if they don’t board now. The already empowered just want to be certain they acquire spots in the VIP cab. Others seem dedicated to bullying the gasping crowds who yet refuse to join them. All three types of passengers are in full denial of the danger signs on the route they are about to travel.

The Trump train is heading to disaster. If it does take off en route to Washington DC it will most certainly derail from the shear ignorance of the conductor. The passengers will of course be mangled and forever scarred by the maniacal ride they fought so hard to be a part of.

Though the Trump train’s passengers argue vehemently that their route is safe and that all of the nation should get on board…they do not have the nation on board! The clear majority refuse to take that ride. Most Americans understand that we need to travel somewhere different than we’ve been, but that doesn’t mean we need to head towards a cliff and drive ourselves off at a high rate of speed.

I will never get on board with Donald Trump’s presidential aspirations. I will never vote for him, and I will never call him my president. For those who are already on his crazy train, for whatever your reasons, I would advise you to disembark, at once!

Cruz is Out for Now

By: Susan Bea Good

“Declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all My purpose…'” (Isaiah 46:10/ESV)

Tonight Ted Cruz withdrew from the race to become the Republican nominee for President. It was a shock to see that message scroll at the bottom of my TV screen. I made a quick check of two other networks to see if they had the same news, just as Senator Cruz made his announcement. Of course, that’s why the whole family was in the background, Carly was so somber, and all looked weepy. I too was weepy…as this was a great disappointment!

However, God still has His plan for America, and that has not changed at all! As a finite human I had big hopes of voting for a godly leader in November, but tonight I have set that hope aside. There certainly are many scenarios yet possible, as I was sharing with a Facebook friend- there’s the Trump University lawsuit scheduled to open the week of the Republican Convention in June. There’s the very sad looking Melania Trump, who appears to me to be just about to the end of her diamond ropes after ten years of wedded bliss with the Donald. But most likely to yet have an effect on this campaign is the Democrat’s “Truth about Trump” onslaught, to begin tomorrow.

Trump’s life, private and public, is so packed full of dishonesty, unfaithfulness, and foolishness that perhaps at the end of this contest the Republican delegates will be inclined to vote for Ted Cruz at the convention after all.

I may be picking up a little sliver of hope again. There is no denying though that this presidential primary season has been effective in revealing the hearts of too many Americans- dishonest, unfaithful, and foolish. Just like the heart of their chosen candidate.

God is sovereign. He will accomplish His plan for America, which may be to make life harder, causing hearts to open to His gospel.

A Five Carat Lie

By: Susan Bea Good

“What shall be given to you, and what more shall be done to you, you deceitful tongue?
A warrior’s sharp arrows, with glowing coals of the broom tree!” (Psalm 120:3-4/ESV)

Hint to women who are looking to purchase a faux stone ring and pass it off as genuine; don’t go for the 5-carat!

Last week a long-time close friend to Donald Trump released a hit story claiming that Ted Cruz cheated on his wife with five women…and kept these as mistresses! The accusation is so outrageous only the most dense Trumpets will believe it. However, because there are so many dense Trumpets in the media (check FOX News these days) these lies about Cruz gain traction and affect the voters’ abilities to discern truth.

If Trump’s friends had put out a smaller lie it would have been more effective. As we all know nobody is perfect, that means Ted Cruz is not perfect. However, it is beyond believable that a man with Cruz’ longstanding excellent moral reputation would actually be someone else!

Trump however, is “someone else.” By his own admissions (and those of his new found friend Dr. Ben Carson) Trump can be whomever he needs to be. He can change. Believe him, he is changeable!

I think we all know who’s responsible for the false rumors of Cruz-infidelities. That person should never hold a public office of trust. #NeverTrump!

Look For a Soft Shoulder: Steering Clear of a Double-Minded Man

“When going downhill, and a large truck, with white smoke coming out from underneath, is fast approaching from behind, you should_______________.” (bad grammar and punctuation in original)

The written exam for Part 1 of our State Driver’s Training course included a 12-page study guide riddled with bad grammar, misspelled words, and inaccurate “correct” multiple choice answers. It’s a wonder anyone passes the exam.

“Michigan law requires you to have your headleights (sic) on 30 minutes after sunset until 30 minutes before sunset.” (Translation: Headlights must be used one hour each day…a half an hour before it gets dark until a half an hour after it gets dark)

I came into contact with these and other ambiguous, nonsensical, or clearly false statements while quizzing my daughter this week for her driver’s ed. exam (which she passed). There was a lot of laughter as we worked together through the questions and answers. For me the brain-twisting task was comparable to arguing with a Donald Trump follower. They don’t make any sense…and yet ironically they’ve convinced themselves that they are right- “TRUMP 2016!”

Just yesterday I witnessed Jeffry Lord, a former advisor to Ronald Reagan, claim that Trump’s statements after the Brussel’s bombings, that he would use a nuclear weapon to stop ISIS , was just a joke…like all/or none of the other extreme statements DT has made. Oh really? I’ll have to admit that I don’t get his jokes…and worse, I don’t even know when DT is joking!

It’s encouraging to see good men rise to stand in these times. It’s also a disappointment to discover who are not “good men.” One thing I know for sure, when this election cycle is over we will know much more about one another.

“Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice…’How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge? If you turn at my reproof, behold, I will pour out my spirit to you; I will make my words known to you. Because I have called and you refused to listen, have stretched out my hand and no one has heeded, because you have ignored all my counsel and would have none of my reproof, I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when terror strikes you…Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently but will not find me.  Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord… therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way, and have their fill of their own devices. For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them; but whoever listens to me will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster.’” (Proverbs 1:20-33/ESV)

Who Will Join the Clean-Up Crew?

By: Susan Bea Good

“Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your deeds from before my eye; cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression…” (Isaiah 1:16-17a)

Tuesday was my State’s Primary election day. Since then I’ve been tossing around two options for blog topics regarding the outcome. I worked as a Poll Challenger in Grand Rapids and suspect I witnessed many Hillary Democrats using the Republican ballot in an attempt to spoil the vote for Ted Cruz. If this is so they may have cost her the State of Michigan, as Bernie Sanders snatched it from the 20 point deficit it had been in just days before. I could write about that irony or the analogy I saw this morning as I performed my spring dog poo yard clean up. I believe I’ll take on the analogy.

Each spring thaw I’m faced with a three acre yard bombed with dog debris that must be removed ASAP, preferably before our seven grandsons take their first-of-the-warm-season-run-through. This job requires a plan and a strong stomach. The key to my strategy is to triple bag my dominant hand, which enables me to fulfill my commitment to thoroughly remove each pile. Of course this initial clean up must be maintained throughout the warm months, as the chance of an unexpected “ugly incident” is always possible, and nobody wants that!

Drawing an analogy comparing my seasonal yard clean up to the underbelly of politics is too easy. The number of candidates, supporters, spokespersons, and party strategists perpetrating excremental-bombs on the public during an election cycle is enough to overcome the strongest stomach. Just as one is exposed three more surface. Identifying the extent of the affects of their corruption is more challenging, and successfully implementing a plan for clarification and clean up is nearly impossible. However, without a commitment to occasional vigorous restorative measures the landscape would become unusable for our families.

May God bless those who sacrifice themselves to be part of the clean-up crew. These positions are not often glamorous or appreciated. Our government would be completely corrupted and there would be no hope for our children’s futures if someone wasn’t willing to clean up the messes!
